Lugano City Information : Lugano Hotels

Lugano is one of the largest financial centres in Switzerland. Business and banking is very much a part of life in Lugano. But beauty and nature, architecture and heritage are also very much part of the city. Lugano a perfect blend of a world city and a small town, a place where business and pleasure, efficiency and work go hand in hand.

Lugano Tourist Attractions
  » Swiss Miniature Village

Small replicas of the major buildings in Switzerland are displayed along a labyrinth of asphalt paths. There's also a miniature of the twin castles in Sion. You can purchase an official guidebook for detailed explanations. This attraction is especially popular with children.

  » Villa Heleneum

Lying 4km (2 1/2 miles) northwest of Lugano, this landmark building is along the much-frequented walk to Gandria. It contains the Museum of Extra-European Cultures, which exhibits objects from Oceania, Indonesia, and Africa. The collection was donated by Serge Brignoni, an exponent of the surrealist movement. There's also a center for ethnographic studies, as well as a library annexed to the museum.

  » Parco Civico

The Lugano Museum of Fine Arts and the wonderful lanscaped public parks skirting the shore of Lake Lugano are a first choice. Walking, stolling, admiring the manicured dazzeling flower beds seems to be the another choice for adults while children can enjoy a complete playground with animal park nearby. Where the river bisects the park a marinia offers the possibilty of varied water activities, sailing, cruises, etc.

  » Mount San Salvatore

The ride up Mount San Salvatore was spectacular. The funicolare (cog-wheel incline train, cost $10.14 USD per person) took 12 minutes to reach the top, with departures every half hour. The 360-degree view of Lugano and the surrounding areas was breathtaking. Dark clouds moved in quickly and positioned themselves midway between us and the lake, yet did not block the view, but only enhanced it.

  » The Ciani Park

In 1912, the estate was bought by the city of Lugano for more than 1.5million francs. Professor Angelo Pizzorno made this comment in Consiglio Comunale (council meeting) :"This is not crazy pointless luxury; it is a shrewd investment by a city whose moral and economic standing is due in great part to the assets of its natural beauty."
In the 1920s Prof. Trosti from Milan conducted a survey of the trees and replaced many that were dead or dying. In 1935 the two buildings used for staff quarters were demolished and thousands of square metres of parkland were used to widen the road from Rivetta Tell as far as Piazza Castello, and to site the Kursaal theatre.
In 1945 the Municipio of Lugano asked the best landscape designers in Switzerland for designs for restructuring the park. Unfortunately their plans were filed away and completely forgotten.

  » Play Planet

This recreational centre is just right for amusement and entertainment. You can have fun all year round in full freedom and safety thanks to the incredible, modular rubber structures. Put on your socks and ...off you go on slides, tunnels, slopes, hurdle courses, tubs full of small balls and a lot more. And if it's a nice day, you can even play outside, in the garden. And why not get a taste of the fantastic, thousand tastes, giant pizzas together with your parents? There's also a free internet point available.
