Leukerbad is a municipality located in the district of Leuk in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. The resort of Luekerbad is visited by hordes of tourists through out the year. It was the Romans who first recognized the remedial properties of the hot springs of Leukerbad Switzerland. This is a well known thermal spa resort lies protected in a Valais side valley and is a popular destination among the sports and fitness fanatics. Every day nearly 3.9 million liters of warm water spurts from 65 thermal springs in the mountain spa resort of Leukerbad. These thermal springs are the reason why Leukerbad has been having mushrooming tourism over the years. Apart from a medical treatment centre, the city attractions are also inclusive of plentiful public thermal baths.
During summer hiking is very famous in the region. The hiking ground of the Gemmi Pass and Torrent are flocked with numerous dare devils. There are myriads of opportunities to indulge in adventurous activities during this time of the year. In the city there are two cableways that connect this holiday resort. This pathway leads from Leukerbad via the Gemmi Pass and along the heavenly Daubensee to Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland. The Gemmi Pass also gives access to the longest and most hard climbing path in Switzerland. And winters in Leukerbad are famous for cross-country skiing and alpine skiing. The city of Leukerbad offers about 50 km of ski trail, 25 km of cross-country ski trails and a massive sports arena with indoor skating, indoor tennis, curling rink, squash courts and hi-tech gym. |
